A $50,000 scholarship endowment has been established at the College of Engineering by a North Carolina State University engineering alumnus in honor of his father.

The endowment from Walter Robert (Bob) Kepley III will benefit undergraduate students in the College of Engineering. Kepley graduated from NC State in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and again in 1981 with a master’s degree in electrical engineering. He grew up in Lewisville, NC, attended West Forsyth High School, and now lives in Maryland where he is senior vice president of engineering for Hughes, a global provider of broadband satellite networks and services.

“We are grateful to Bob Kepley for this generous endowment gift,” said Dr. Louis A. Martin Vega, dean of the College of Engineering. “His support helps us continue to attract the best and brightest undergraduate students who will become the next generation of outstanding leaders.”

Kepley established the W.R. Kepley Scholarship Endowment in honor of his father, the late W.R. Kepley Jr., who was also an NC State engineering alumnus. The elder Kepley graduated in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

“Following in my father’s footsteps, NC State was instrumental in preparing me for a successful career in the field of engineering,” Kepley said. “In my father’s name, I wish to support the NC State Engineering Foundation in doing the same for others.”
