ECE Student Recognized by Graduate School for Research on Wireless Communication

Ph.D. student in Electrical Engineering Lopamudra Kundu was recognized by the Graduate School for her research into a possible solution of how to squeeze more data from bandwidth in mobile devices.

The proliferation of wireless communication technologies has people around the world clamoring for faster download speeds. The main factor limiting speed is the finite spectrum of radio frequencies.

Ph.D. student in Electrical Engineering Lopamudra Kundu was recognized by the Graduate School for her research into a possible solution of how to squeeze more data from bandwidth in mobile devices. At the tenth annual Graduate Student Research Symposium, Kundu was honored with second place in the engineering category.

Under the advisement of Dr. Brian Hughes, Kundu has been studying how to achieve faster speeds. She proposed a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) solution because multiple antennas both at the transmitter and receiver ends increase data rate substantially. She has demonstrated that MIMO can be deployed in mobile devices, if the antenna array can be decoupled and matched optimally over the entire bandwidth.

Congratulations to Lopamudra Kundu for her innovative research in wireless communication.

Each year, the Graduate School Symposium showcases the outstanding quality and diversity of graduate-level research at NC State. This year’s Symposium was held on March 25 at the McKimmon Center.
