Dr. Spyros Pavlidis Receives the 2021-22 R. Ray Bennett Faculty Fellow Award

Congratulations to Pavlidis for receiving the R. Ray Bennett Faculty Fellow Award!

ECE Assistant Professor, Spyros Pavlidis, is the recipient of the 2021-22 R. Ray Bennett Faculty Fellow Award. The mother of Mr. R. Ray Bennett, Mrs. Alice B. Bennett, endowed a faculty fellowship for the NC State Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as a memorial to her son. The R. Ray Bennett Faculty Fellow Award provides support for high-achieving young faculty in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NC State in pursuing their academic and cutting-edge research initiatives. This recognition is presented annually by the ECE Department to a single individual with a $40,000 cash award.

Pavlidis has established a very active and productive research group since joining the ECE Department in January of 2018. Since joining, he has received over $2M in funded projects, and he is presently advising 5 Ph.D. students. He received the NSF CAREER Award in 2022.

A major thrust of his research program has been centered around the use of wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductor devices, in particular those based on gallium nitride (GaN), which have already begun to displace traditional silicon devices in radio-frequency and power electronics. His research interests also include the development of portable and highly sensitive chemical and biochemical sensing platforms using electronic devices.

Pavlidis earned his Master’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2010 from the Imperial College London, and his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2016 from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
