
NC State University and Axiro Collaborate on Next-Gen Phased Array and ISAC Research
NC State’s Integrated Communication and Sensing Lab (ICaSL), led by Assistant Professor Suresh Venkatesh, and Axiro Semiconductor are advancing research in FR2/FR3 phased-array platforms and integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) technologies aimed at enabling next-generation wireless and satellite communication systems.

North Carolina State University’s Integrated Communication and Sensing Lab (ICaSL), led by Assistant Professor Suresh Venkatesh, and Axiro Semiconductor are advancing research in FR2/FR3 phased-array platforms and integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) technologies aimed at enabling next-generation wireless and satellite communication systems.
Professor Venkatesh’s research group within the NC State Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering focuses on radio frequency (RF) circuits and systems for advanced wireless communications, sensing and imaging applications. The lab’s recent work explores communication-centric approaches that enable wireless systems to simultaneously communicate, sense and image their environments using shared hardware platforms and spectral resources.
Recently, the ICaSL team demonstrated an AI-enabled digital twin framework – Integrated Imaging, Sensing and Communication (I2SAC); using Axiro Semiconductor’s millimeter-wave phased-array testbed, this framework is capable of concurrent channel sensing, high-speed wireless communication and RF imaging. The work has been selected as a finalist in the best paper competition at the 2026 International Microwave Symposium (IMS).
As part of its continued engagement with advanced wireless research initiatives, Axiro Semiconductor is supporting research activities within the ICaSL group focused on FR2/FR3 phased-array systems and next-generation wireless infrastructure technologies. The initiative is expected to contribute toward the development of intelligent, adaptive and context-aware connectivity platforms relevant to future 6G, satcom and integrated sensing applications.
This research also aligns with broader industry efforts to develop system-level phased-array reference platforms that can accelerate innovation in satellite communications and advanced wireless infrastructure.

The Integrated Communication and Sensing Lab (ICaSL) at North Carolina State University works at the intersection of electromagnetics and integrated circuits.
