IUCRC Planning Grant NCSU: Center for Advanced Magnetics for Power and Energy Development (AMPED)

Sponsored by National Science Foundation (NSF)

Subhashish Bhattacharya

Project runs from 02/01/2022 to 01/31/2023
$20,000

Center’s vision and mission: The AMPED consortium focuses, technically, on the R&D for magnetic materials science, including manufacturability and scalability to electrical components like inductors, transformers, and electric vehicle motors. Educationally, AMPED focuses on the development of an interdisciplinary technical workforce with expertise spanning the requisite materials science, electrical engineering, and physics principles to fully understand, model, design, and optimize power magnetics components to provide a valuable and needed service to the power engineering industry including material providers and electrical manufacturers. Holistically, the center seeks to develop a community-based innovation ecosystem with representatives from government, industry, and academia having a technical focus spanning fundamental materials science and manufacturing to full-scale optimized component design.
