A North Carolina State University engineering alumnus and his wife have established a $50,000 scholarship endowment in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering to help attract promising students to the program.

The gift establishes the Robin and Susan Manning Scholarship in Electrical Engineering, which will be awarded to undergraduate students in the department’s electrical engineering program. First preference for the need-based scholarships will be given to students from the Mannings’ home county, Martin County. If there are no qualified applicants from Martin County, awards will be made to students from other areas of eastern North Carolina.

“We are grateful to Robin and Susan Manning for their investment in the engineers of tomorrow,” said Dr. Louis A. Martin-Vega, dean of the College of Engineering. “This scholarship will continue to strengthen our electrical engineering program and encourage talented students to attend NC State.”

Robin Manning graduated from NC State in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He is executive vice president of power system operations at the Tennessee Valley Authority and also serves on the NC State Engineering Foundation Board of Directors and chairs its college relations committee. Susan Manning is a lifelong educator who earned her bachelor’s degree in education at UNC-Greensboro.

“Like many people, I feel I owe a lot of my success in life to what I learned at NC State,” Robin Manning said. “And we wanted to make sure others have that chance.”
