Devesikiotis Awarded Research Stipend

Dec 22, 2010

Dr. Michael Devetsikiotis Time Warner Cable has awarded four new research stipends under its Research Program on Digital Communications.  One of those selected was Electrical and Computer Engineering professor Dr. Michael Devetsikiotis‘s project entitled Modeling the Impact of Emerging Traffic Patterns on the Design of Aggregation Architectures which will be awarded $20,000 in the second round of awards in 2010.

Dr. Devetsikiotis project will increase understanding of how to build broadband access infrastructure environments to accommodate aggregation and optimize quality of service.  This project will also increase understanding of network architecture techniques in the complex traffic environment of next-generation services.

"We were very pleased with the first year of our Research Program and the two rounds of applications. We received high quality proposals and believe that the studies selected in 2010 will add to the public debate about major issues now confronting the industry, policymakers, and stakeholders," said Fernando Laguarda, director of the program and Vice President for External Affairs and Policy Counselor at Time Warner Cable.

The research program was launched in February 2010 to foster research that would explore the benefits and challenges facing the future of digital technologies in the home, office, classroom and community.  The program will be publishing the reports that were funded in 2010 and award additional research stipends in its Spring and Fall award cycles in the coming year.

"With the completion of the second round of research stipends and the commissioning of five essays in 2010, we believe that the Time Warner Cable Research Program on Digital Communications is off to an excellent start," said Laguarda. "The time continues to be ripe for an enhanced debate about the future of digital communications in our nation."
