This past week, IEEE has awarded Dr. Alper Bozkurt with the 2016 IEEE Sensors Council Young Professional Award for his outstanding research, teaching, and outreach performance.

His leadership in innovating novel bionic cyberphysical systems using microelectronic and MEMS based neural and hemodynamic interfaces with various biological organisms seek to provide sensing and actuation solutions to engineering problems from healthcare to security.

Annually, the IEEE Sensors Council Young Professional Award is granted to individuals who promote, recognize, and support contributions from young, inspired professional members who share interests with the IEEE Sensors council. The council awards the Young Professional Award to aid recent graduates in their transition to the professional life. This year’s award will be presented to Dr. Bozkurt in November in Orlando, Florida.

Dr. Alper Bozkurt, having been with NC State since 2010, researches and develops microscale sensors, actuators, and methodologies to uncover new and innovative findings in biological systems. His primary interests fall in line with Bioelectronics Engineering, Bioinstrumentation, Biomechatronics, and Biomimetic Systems.
