Ph.D. Candidate Krishna Namburi and Faculty Member Iqbal Husain Win Best Paper Award at ITEC 2024
Krishna Mpk Namburi, a standout student from our Electrical and Computer Engineering department, and faculty member Iqbal Husain were awarded the Best Paper Award at the prestigious ITEC 2024 conference.

We are thrilled to announce that Krishna MPK Namburi ‘25, a standout Ph.D. candidate in Electrical Engineering, and faculty member Iqbal Husain have been awarded the Best Paper Award at the prestigious International Transportation Electrification Conference (ITEC) 2024 in Chicago, IL. Namburi’s paper, titled “Hybrid Current Control of Rare Earth Free Biaxial Excitation Synchronous Machines,” was co-authored with Prerit Pramod, Ritvik Chattopadhyay, Ion Boldea and our esteemed faculty member, Husain.
Their groundbreaking research addresses the critical need for sustainable and efficient electric machine control, contributing significantly to the field of transportation electrification. Namburi expressed his excitement, saying, “I was absolutely thrilled and honored when I received the news. It was a moment of great satisfaction to see our work being recognized at an IEEE conference.”
Namburi also shared his inspiration for the research: “The need for sustainable and cost-effective alternatives to scarce rare earth materials inspired our research. We aimed to maintain low cost and high performance while reducing dependency on these elements.”
The recognition at ITEC underscores the innovative work being conducted at NC State ECE and highlights the collaborative efforts between students and faculty.
