May 7, 2008

Dr. Hatice Ozturk, NC State University Dr. Hatice Ozturk has been selected to receive NC State’s George H. Blessis Undergraduate Advising Award.  News of this award was conveyed to Dr. Ozturk by Dr. Richard F. Keltie, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

Dean Keltie reported that the selection committee consisted of faculty colleagues as well as students and all were impressed with her dedication to student success as demonstrated through her advising activities. According to Keltie, “This is a very nice and very well-deserved recognition and I thank you for all that you do to benefit our students.”

The George H. Blessis Outstanding Undergraduate Advisor Award recognizes faculty members who consistently and willingly give their time and efforts to advising, counseling, and mentoring students and assisting student groups. The students they have reached have, to a large extent, helped establish the reputation of NC State as a major university and a center of excellence in teaching and research. This award is also a continuing memorial to George H. Blessis, whose interest in undergraduate education and advising serves as an example to many faculty members. Candidates are nominated by departments and selected by the COE Teaching and Advising Awards Committee. The award is made in the amount of $1000.

Cecilia Townsend won the award in 2006 for her undergraduate advising efforts in the ECE Department.
