Professor Joel Trussell Professor Joel Trussell has written a new textbook, titled "Fundamentals of Digital Imaging". The book focuses on core techniques of image capture and display of monochrome and color images.

Most image processing results in an output image that is displayed and interpreted by an observer. This observer has to know the characteristics of the image and display device. The book is an introduction to methods for characterizing and analyzing image input and output devices. It starts with an overview of digital imaging, and gradually builds up to the estimation of image model parameters and restoration.

The textbook has many illustrations, real-world examples, and homework problems. The text is intended for advanced undergraduate and graduate students taking courses in digital imaging in electrical engineering and computer science.

Prof. Trussell is a professor and director of graduate programs in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. He received his Ph.D. from University of New Mexico, in 1976. His specific research areas are in image and signal processing, which include estimation theory, color image capture, reproduction, and restoration. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, and the recipient of two Best Paper awards with his students publications in the IEEE Transactions.
