ECE Alumnus to Become Faculty at University of Michigan-Dearborn
Wencong Su, a recent Ph.D. graduate of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North Carolina State University, will join the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Michigan-Dearborn as a tenure-track assistant professor in the Fall of 2013.

Wencong Su, a recent Ph.D. graduate of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North Carolina State University, will join the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Michigan-Dearborn as a tenure-track assistant professor in the Fall of 2013.
Wencong received his B.S. degree with distinction at Clarkson University in May of 2008 and his M.S. degree at Virginia Tech in December of 2009. He joined the National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering Research Center – Future Renewable Electric Energy Delivery and Management (FREEDM) Systems Center at North Carolina State University in the Spring of 2010 and has being worked there ever since. He also worked as a Research Aide (co-op) at Argonne National Laboratory from January to August 2012. Wencong received IEEE Industrial Electronics Society’s Student Best Paper Award in 2013 and Applied Energy’s Best Reviewers Award in 2012. He also received the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad in 2011. He is a full member of the Sigma Xi Society.
“Wencong is a highly self-motivated and talented young researcher”, says Dr. Alex Q Huang, Progress Energy Distinguished Professor and Director of the NSF FREEDM Systems Center. “He has done a considerable amount of work on our FREEDM and ATEC research projects. I have been very favorably impressed with his research work. Since 2010, Wencong has accumulated a long list of peer-reviewed journal and conference publications in the field of power systems and Smart Grid.”
In May of 2013, Wencong defended his Ph.D. thesis, “Smart Grid Operations Integrated with Plug-in Electric Vehicles and Renewable Energy Resources”, under Dr. Alex Q. Huang. His research interests include Smart Grid, Microgrid, Grid Integration of Plug-in Electric Vehicles, Renewable Energy, Computational Intelligence, Power System Modeling and Simulation.
