Sanskriti Deva ’24: Bridging Quantum Research and Commercial Innovation

Sanskriti Deva ’24, a Computer Engineering major, interned at IBM Quantum in Yorktown Heights, New York, this summer. Working on the business side of quantum computation, she contributed to high-impact projects and upcoming technology launches.

This summer, Sanskriti Deva ’24, a Computer Engineering major, has been interning at IBM Quantum’s research facility in Yorktown Heights, New York. Deva’s role has focused on the business side of quantum computation, where she’s been integral to projects aimed at translating groundbreaking quantum technology into commercial applications.

Under the exceptional guidance of her mentor and manager, Deva has contributed to major upcoming quantum technology launches and partnerships. This hands-on experience has offered her valuable insights into how technical research evolves into marketable products.

“For someone who’s passionate about science fiction, working on quantum computers feels like living in a movie or a book,” Deva shares. “I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity to be part of such an emerging field at a young age. The support from the NC State ECE Department and the IBM Quantum Innovation Center has been crucial. “It has motivated me to challenge myself and has shown me that you’re never too young to make an impact.”

Back at NC State, Deva was heavily involved in several student organizations within the ECE department. Notably, she helped found Women in ECE (WiECE) at NC State, an organization that fosters a supportive and inclusive environment for women and female-identifying students through leadership, professional development, and academic success initiatives, connecting them with broader STEM engagement and enrichment activities. 

“Being a member allowed me to go to conferences and gain vital professional skills,” said Deva. “I’ve also been president and helped found Quantum Computing Club which helped me find a community of like-minded people I never knew existed. I’ll be speaking at IEEE Quantum Week about the power of such student-led organizations in promoting quantum computing.”
