On May 5, 2022 at 11:00 am at Reynolds Coliseum, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering welcomes family and friends of our Spring 2022 graduates. We will be celebrating the dedication and commitment of our graduating doctoral, master, and bachelor degree students as they carry forward a tradition of excellence, accomplishment, and life-long learning.

We are excited to invite our 2020 and Spring 2021 graduates to return to campus with the opportunity to walk in our Graduation. We will ask that all 2020/Spring 2021 grads attending RSVP to ensure we are prepared to include you in the proceedings—more information will be provided closer to the event.

Veena Misra

Distinguished Professor, NC State University

Misra received her bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from NC State. Her research focuses on physical electronics, photonics and magnetics; power electronics and power systems; electronic energy systems packaging; and power semiconductor devices.

Under her leadership, NC State won an NSF Engineering Research Center on ASSIST. Through her role as director of the ERC on ASSIST, Misra is highly effective in building a community of faculties from many universities who work together with common research, education, and technical goals and are supported by a partnership with leaders in the industry. Her most important contributions to engineering education come from the culture she has established through ASSIST and her other work.

She has enabled students to gain a rich interdisciplinary research experience, capped off by experience in designing and building innovative technology. In this capacity, Misra has provided students with a pathway to fulfilling engineering careers in academia and industry. She has also made significant advances in the area of wide bandgap devices, metal electrodes, and high-K dielectrics for CMOS applications for which she also received the IEEE Fellow citation in 2012. Misra’s work in hybrid molecular-silicon memories is also noteworthy since she demonstrated fundamentally new directions with the convergence of solid-state devices and organic chemistry. The total funding with Misra either as a PI or a mission-critical Co-PI exceeds $59 million.

Sahaj J. Zalavadia

Class of 2022

Sahaj Zalavadia is a graduating senior from Charlotte, NC double majoring in Computer Engineering and Economics. During his time at NC State, he has participated in the University Honors Program, and the Benjamin Franklin Scholars, a dual degree program between the College of Engineering and College of Humanities and Social Sciences. On-campus he was involved as an Engineering Ambassador where he represented the College of Engineering and helped organize events such as Open House and supported E101/E102 courses as a teaching assistant.

Sahaj joined Delta Sigma Iota Fraternity, Inc., a South Asian interest fraternity focused on service, education, and unity, during his first semester on campus. Throughout the last four years, he has served in various roles from Academics Chair to President of the fraternity. His proudest achievement for the fraternity is helping organize Sangeet Saagar, a South Asian cappella competition that has raised thousands of dollars for charity.

Sahaj had the opportunity to study abroad in London during the summer of 2019 and experience engineering in a different country. With the knowledge he has gained through computer engineering and economics, he pursued two Software Engineering internships with Allstate and IBM. Upon graduation, Sahaj will be working for IBM as a Cloud Engineer in New York City where he hopes to use his background in computer engineering and economics to work in sales and provide unique solutions to clients.

Order of the Engineer

Many engineering and computer science societies’ codes of ethics include statements of the professional responsibilities of their working members. The purpose of this ceremony is to remind and encourage NC State College of Engineering students to be cognizant of these responsibilities as they embark on the professional phase of their lives. In addition, we wish to celebrate the conclusion of their time on campus and wish them well in future endeavors as they represent themselves, their families, the college and NC State itself.

The Recognition of Graduates Event on May 4, 2022 4:00 pm requires RSVP online.
