We are pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2023-24 R. Ray Bennett Faculty Fellow Award is Qing Gu. The Ray Bennett Faculty Fellow Award recognizes high-achieving young faculty in the ECE Department to support their pursuit of cutting-edge research.

Gu’s research focuses on creating nanophotonic components for photonic integrated circuits (PICs), with a special emphasis on quantum-inspired light sources. At NC State, she is working in an interdisciplinary program to advance on-chip device technology by leveraging unique material properties. Her work spans the areas of Nanolasers and NanoLEDs, Topologically Protected Microlasers, Perovskite Microlasers on Si, and Luminescent Hyperbolic Metamaterials. She has also started work in the field of quantum devices.

She has written a book, “Semiconductor Nanolasers” and published 47 peer-reviewed papers. Her total funding awarded since 2016 has been over $3.4M. She has received numerous awards including the 2020 NSF CAREER Award.

We extend our congratulations to Gu for her outstanding recognition!
