Meet Amanda Dixon ’99, Our Spring 2025 ECE Commencement Speaker

Amanda Dixon ’99 will speak at the Spring 2025 ECE Commencement. She returns to campus to celebrate the Class of 2025 and share her journey in smart cities.


The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NC State is proud to welcome Amanda Dixon ’99 as the Spring 2025 Commencement speaker.

Dixon, who earned her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from NC State, now serves as senior business growth manager for smart cities at SELC Powered by Itron. With more than two decades of experience in smart grid and outdoor lighting technologies, she has led major smart street lighting initiatives across North America. She also chairs the ANSI C136 Outdoor and Area Lighting Committee within NEMA, helping shape the future of public infrastructure and sustainability.

A proud member of the Wolfpack, Dixon remains closely connected to the university. She supports student success through ECE scholarship endowments and is a strong advocate for mentorship and outreach in STEM.

The Spring 2025 ECE Commencement Ceremony will be held May 1 at 3 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. The event will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.

Dixon’s return to campus is a full-circle moment — one that celebrates not just her career success but the enduring impact of an NC State engineering education. Her message to the Class of 2025 is sure to inspire.
